March 4, 2024

The City Council of Webster City may choose Monday to purchase the former Coulter Paint store building, which is located at the corner of Second Street and Willson Avenue. The building, at 612 Willson Avenue, is owned by Marene and Brian Hubbard.

The city surrounded its entrance with barricades in late 2023 due to undisclosed safety concerns. It has remained barricaded since then.

The resolution on the purchase agreement describes the property “located at 547

Second Street and 612 Willson Avenue as unsafe and declared it a public nuisance.

“WHEREAS, due to the lack of abatement the City feels it is in the best interest to acquire

said property.”

The owners have already signed a document indicating their willingness to sell, a copy of which is in the council packet for Monday night’s meeting.

The City plans to purchase the property for $10,000, according to the council packet.

The meeting Monday begins at 6 p.m. in the council chambers of City Hall, 400 Second Street, Webster City.

This meeting can also be attended via Zoom.com using the meeting ID 832 9574 0385.

The phone number to call to participate via telephone is 1-312-626-6799.

This might be one of the last meetings the public may be able to attend using the Zoom app, according to the council packet. The city’s IT Director Kirby Winter, in a memo to the council, suggests the city suspend its use of Zoom for live meetings and instead let online viewers access the council meetings through its live Facebook feed.

The council is expected to vote on this Monday.
