July fireworks permit approved; street closures OK’s for painting

Kent and Milissa Bailey of OHP Marketing updated the City Council of Webster City on the Hamilton County Marketing program.
The Baileys showed the website, hamiltoncountyiowawelcomehome.com, and explained that the goal of the project is to recruit skilled labor to live and work in the county. The effort is a joint project of the City of Webster City, Business and Industry Board and Hamilton County.
Kent Bailey offered an article that explained what some cities around the country are doing to attract more people to live in those communities. Some offered student loan repayments, others offered free housing or cash bonuses for choosing the cities.
The Baileys also explained their targeted Facebook marketing efforts.
“You won’t see any of the videos in your Facebook feed because we’re looking beyond Hamilton County,” according to Milissa Bailey. She said that the Google analytics showed that top click rate came from people in Texas.
The Baileys said several commercial partners have contributed funds to assist with the marketing efforts. Those businesses are currently or will be soon featured on the website.
Kent Harfst, city recreation and public grounds director, and Brian Lammers, Hamilton County Conservation Director, discussed possible future trail development in the area and how trails could be linked to provide more paths for bicyclists and hikers. Both agreed that a well-researched plan was necessary for proceeding with future development.
Councilman Jim Talbot was selected to serve on the Community and Family Resources North Central Iowa Opioid Task Force.
The council approved a Chamber of Commerce request for a fireworks permit for July 3. Van Diest Supply Company is again sponsoring the fireworks for the community. In addition, patriotic music by Jive for Five will be performed from 9 to 10 p.m.
The fireworks will be fired off about 10 p.m. that night just west of the three ball diamonds at the high school. Area residents are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit on the practice field on the inside of the track.
Monday night the council also approved a $1,000 donation to the Hamilton County Fair for the annual sponsorship.
The council approved a request to close Seneca Street between Bank and Dubuque Streets for the Arts R Alive street painting in conjunction with the annual sculpture event.
