The Webster City City Council is comprised of five (5) members, elected in odd-numbered years, to serve a term of four (4) years. The mayor is elected by a vote of the five (5) council members for a two-year term.
The council hires the City Manager and appoints the City Clerk and City Attorney. It also appoints members to all City Commissions and Boards.
Meetings are held the first and third Mondays of the month at 6:00 pm in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Special work sessions are held as needed.
John Hawkins is serving his second term on the City Council. He has been the Mayor of Webster City since 2016.
John was born in Ipswich, Australia. He is self-employed and owns a transportation company. He and his wife, Marcia, together have seven children and 13 grandchildren.
John enjoys spending his free time with his grandchildren. He is also involved in Rotary and is an active community volunteer.

Abigail (Abbie) Hansen is serving her first term on the City Council. Abbie grew up in Webster City. She graduated from Webster City High School in 2009. She went on to obtain the education and skills to become an EKG Technician that led her to a career in healthcare.
Abbie currently works in the Business Office at Van Diest Medical Center as a Certified Patient Accounts Representative. Before becoming a Certified Patient Accounts Representative (CRCS-I) in 2019, she served as a CNA/Telemetry Technician at Van Diest Medical Center. Prior to that she served as a CNA at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation. During high school she worked at Leon’s Pizza.
Abbie and her husband (Joe) have two sons; one in middle school and one in preschool. She loves watching her sons play baseball. When she’s not shuttling them to baseball practice or games, she enjoys reading, planting flowers, and spending time outside.
Abbie appreciates the family-oriented values of the community that allow families to grow and prosper. Abbie’s parents and her siblings all still live in Webster City. She looks forward to spending every Friday night at her parent’s home along with her brother, sister, and their families for supper. A weekly Breitenkamp reunion!
Abbie serves on the Employee Advisory Committee and Service Excellence Council for the hospital and as a volunteer for the community. Her desire to serve the community that she grew up in and where she and her husband are now raising their sons led her to want to serve on the City Council. She wants the community to continue to prosper and be a great place to raise a family.

Matt McKinney is serving his second term on the City Council. He was born in Fort Dodge and raised in Webster City.
Matt is currently employed as the Facility Administrator with DaVita Renal Center in Fort Dodge. He holds a Masters in Healthcare Administration (MHA) from Des Moines University and a Bachelors in Healthcare Management from Bellevue University.
Matt and his wife have two children, a son and a daughter. In his spare time, Matt loves to travel, Iowa Hawkeye sports, spending time with his family and church. He currently serves on the Webster City Daycare Board and the Webster City Free Clinic Board.

Megan McFarland is serving her first term on the City Council. She was raised in Webster City.
Megan currently works as Department Manager and Infusion Nurse at McFarland Clinic Fort Dodge Oncology office. She also serves as Critical Care RN at Unity Point Health Fort Dodge. She holds an Associates Degree in Nursing and is an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN).
Prior to serving on the City Council, Megan’s passion for her community and commitment to help others led her to join the Webster City Daycare Board of Directors in the summer of 2021.
Megan and her husband (Josh) have two young children, both under the age of 5. Megan enjoys spending time with family, reading a good book, sharing her love for animals with her kids, visiting the Omaha Zoo every year, attending her daughters dance practices, and was recently introduced to magnet fishing.
Webster City is Megan’s home. She plans to raise her kids and spend the rest of her life in Webster City. She wants to see the community grow, continue to be successful, and hopes the City continues to make the investments in recreation and quality of life amenities that growing families enjoy.

Logan Welch is serving his second term on the City Council. He was born in Webster City and was raised on an acreage south of town. He graduated from Iowa Central Community College with an electrical degree in 2000. Logan currently works for Van Meter Inc based out of Cedar Rapids as their Renewable Energy Product Manager and Solar Specialist.
Logan and his wife, Lindsay, are parents to two boys with a third on the way. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, working on his yard, and being outdoors. He also enjoys traveling to video game and comic book conventions with my family.
Logan is very involved with all different types of groups and events in throughout Webster City. He enjoys coaching his son’s youth sport teams, being a Cub Scout leader, serving on the Building Families Board, YSS Board, Youth Advisory Board, Riverview Early Childhood Center Board, Rotary Club, and other volunteer opportunities as they arise.
