The Webster City Fire Department has named Captain Jeromy Estlund as the 2018 Firefighter of the Year. Captain Estlund’s honor was based off his contributions to the department and the community.
This year Captain Estlund received a life saving commendation for a river rescue that took place in April. Because of his quick work, the person’s life was saved. He also was a big part of a difficult vehicle accident extrication this year that helped to save a person’s life.
Another major contribution that Captain Estlund brought to the Fire Department is his coordination of the biannual Fire Prevention open house for local youth to have fun and learn about fire safety. In addition, Captain Estlund goes into the elementary schools and preschools to give fire prevention safety talks to the kids.
Captain Estlund was nominated and chosen by his peers as a result of his constant dedication and hard work to promote the department, as well as his work surrounding the county shed fire and being the first to arrive with Engine 33.
