The City Council of Webster City approved work on four projects at its regularly-scheduled meeting Monday night.
These included approval of the latest bidding package for minor materials necessary to continue phase one of the Electric Distribution Improvements project, authority to buy a new vacuum separator for the electric utility, platting of a new subdivision, and securing an easement to permit construction of a new sidewalk.
Each is briefly discussed below:
Contracts to pay for minor materials to continue work on phase one of the City’s Electric Distribution Improvements to the 13.2Kv distribution system were awarded to the lowest responsive bidder in each of seven categories of materials, as follows:
Primary cable fittings — $71,839.83 awarded to Fletcher-Reinhardt Company, Cedar Rapids.
Primary pedestals — $3,218.40 awarded to Border States Electric, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Secondary power cable — $4,508.77 awarded to Border States Electric, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Secondary connectors — $218.50 awarded to Fletcher-Reinhardt Company, Cedar Rapids.
Overhead riser materials — $21,920.69 awarded to Border States Electric, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Cable Sealings and Identification materials — $1,215.35 awarded to Dakota Supply Group, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Grounding materials — $7,429.85 awarded to Dakota Supply Group, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The engineer’s estimate for the entire bidding package was $108,000, excluding taxes. The total of the low bids, in the categories above, was $2,351.39 (2.2%) higher than the engineer’s estimate. Each category of goods has a different delivery date, with the first occurring in December, 2024, and continuing until all are delivered, by the end of December, 2025.
The electric utility was given approval to replace its 2019 McLaughlin vacuum separator, with a new 2025 Vermeer model VX50 vacuum separator. The fiscal year 2024/25 capital plan contained $165,000 for this purchase. The low bid was received from Vermeer of Iowa and Northern Missouri, who allowed a $50,000 trade-in allowance on the older machine. This was seen as a “favorable” arrangement by staff.
Council approved the plat of a new minor subdivision of 74.33 acres southeast of Webster City, and south of U.S. Highway 20. The new subdivision, to be known as Lockwood Estates, is owned by Dalene Schlitter, is zoned agricultural, and is within the City’s two-mile jurisdiction.
Farm Credit Services, 345 Fair Meadow Drive, Webster City, agreed to convey a permanent and perpetual easement to the City so a sidewalk can be built along the southern edge of the property. This will improve safety for pedestrians walking along Fair Meadow Drive east of Superior Street.
