The Webster City Police Department, in cooperation with the Hamilton County Attorney’s Office, wants to alert the community of a Social Security scam. This scam has someone call and state there is a problem with your social security number. They often ask for you to give your Social Security number and other personal information to the caller to “compare” with their records. Often times, these calls come from phone numbers that appear to be local.
DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION OVER THE TELEPHONE!! Under no circumstances should you cooperate with the caller or provide them with any information. The Social Security Administration does not conduct business over the telephone, and they do not request personal information over the telephone.
If you believe you have fallen victim to this scam or any other scam, notify your local law enforcement agency.
