MEDIA RELEASE
The Webster City Police Department wants to remind everyone of the City Ordinance pertaining to the use of fireworks within the City limits. Chapter 48 of the Webster City Ordinances states:
- A person may use or explode consumer fireworks only from 10:00 am on July 4th until 12:00 am on July 5th of each year. It shall be unlawful to discharge consumer fireworks without meeting the requirements specified in this ordinance, or to discharge fireworks outside of the dates and times specified.
In addition to the time frame for discharge, anyone discharging them must be at least 18 years of age, not under the influence of any intoxicant, not discharge them recklessly and be on their own property or on property where the owner has given consent.
Violations of this ordinance will result in a misdemeanor citation and the confiscation of the fireworks. All confiscated fireworks are required to be turned over to the Iowa State Fire Marshal for disposal.
The Webster City Police Department wants everyone to have a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July. Please be alert to your surroundings and be good neighbors when discharging fireworks. Neighbors and pets may not be as excited as you about fireworks.
