Chief Hanson began his career as Chief with the Duncombe/Lehigh Police Department before moving to a Patrol Officer position with the Eagle Grove Police Department. In 2006 he accepted a position with the Fort Dodge Police Department.
Chief Hanson has 24 years of experience in law enforcement, including 10 years in supervisory and management roles. During his career with the Fort Dodge Police Department he has served in several roles, including Patrol Officer, Narcotics Detective, General Crimes Detective, Criminal Investigation Sergeant, Patrol Division Sergeant and most recently he was promoted to Criminal Investigation Division Captain in April of 2023.
Chief Hanson earned his Associates of Applied Science in Criminal Justice from Iowa Central Community College in 2024. He has attended various police-related managerial trainings including FBI-LEEDA Leadership Trilogy and numerous other specialized trainings in narcotics and criminal investigations.
Chief Hanson is a Webster City resident and will begin his duties on June 23, 2025.
