Webster City Fire Department announces smoke detector program

January 30, 2020

The Webster City Fire Department recently announced that they have a program to provide free smoke detectors and batteries to households that do not have a working one. To schedule delivery and installation of your smoke detector and/or batteries, call the Fire Department at 515-832-9131.

It is recommended that every sleeping room and every floor in a residence should have a working smoke detector.

A working smoke detector is important to provide an early warning if there is a fire and allows most people one of two options:

1. If the person is able to quickly remove themselves from the home without assistance, they can do so and get to safety.

2. If a person is unable to self-rescue themselves, they can call for help, which can reduce the delay of the Fire Department response.
