WC snow ordinance explained

February 20, 2019

With more snow falling Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, officials with the City have implemented the snow ordinance for this morning, effective at 6 a.m.

The Webster City Police Department offered a reminder to local citizens about the Snow Ordinance and explain how it is enforced.

“No one likes to wake up to one of those little yellow tickets, so here’s how to avoid getting one,” said Chief Shiloh Mork.

When a Snow Emergency is declared, all vehicles must be removed from the streets by 6 a.m. Vehicles are not allowed to park on the street until both sides of the street have been plowed, or the Snow Emergency has been removed.

The Police Department starts to issue parking citations at 8 a.m. In addition to a citation, vehicles parked on the street during the declared emergency are subject to tow if they pose a safety issue for maintenance crews and/or the public.

When a Snow Emergency has been declared, the notification is posted on the City Facebook page, the Police Department Facebook page, local cable channel 12, KQWC radio and The Daily Freeman Journal. If you do not have access to any of these forms of media, you can always call City Hall, 832-9151, or the Police Department, 832-9166, to inquire about whether or not an emergency has been declared. The best rule of thumb is when more than a dusting of snow is expected, play it safe and move your vehicle, Mork said.
