Plans to preserve the Wilson Brewer Park cabins were advanced by the City Council on Monday.

The council awarded a contract to Heritage Woodworks, of Clemons, for the dismantling and reconstruction of the cabins.

The contract is in the amount of $126,060.

Phil Grossman, of Heritage Woodworks, said he planned to get to work in January.

“The first thing we will do is assess it and take an inventory and start documentation process,”Grossman said.

Following that, he said the disassembling process would begin.

“From there it goes back to our shop and there is a lengthy process in the rehabilitation of the logs,”Grossman said. “Each cabin is really different. But what you have is really neat. You don’t see those period of cabins in those condition. They are very rare to find, so it’s neat to see your passion as a community to make sure they are well taken care of.”

A timeline for when the cabins will return is to be determined.

Gary Groves, chairman of Wilson Brewer Park, said he was happy to see the project moving forward.

“We are very pleased to find people who are willing to put their heart and soul into some project like this,” Groves said. “I am pleased to be working with them.”
