Mayor John Hawkins signed an official proclamation Monday night, declaring Friday, May 25 as Poppy Day in Webster City. Members of the American Legion Auxiliary – Pat Nokes, Sharon Keigan, Shirley Lacey and Lorene Burnett — were on hand to give the mayor the first poppy. Auxiliary members will be at Fareway, Hy-Vee and KMart on Friday, accepting donations for a colorful poppy, The poppies are made by veterans at the Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Proceeds will benefit vets and their families.
